The management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has reassured that the essential supplies for renal patients, currently delayed at the port, will be cleared soon. Renal patients at the hospital have announced plans to picket on Wednesday, August 21, in protest over the prolonged delay in obtaining these critical supplies.
Due to the shortage, the renal unit has been forced to close for three weeks, leaving patients without vital medical care. On Monday, August 19, Korle Bu’s Public Relations Officer, Mustapha Salifu, stated that the hospital is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore services.
“We have repeatedly apologized for this situation and urge patients to remain patient. We have received a commitment from the Ministry of Health that the container will be cleared soon,” Salifu said. He added that while patients have endured the situation for over two weeks, it is important for all parties to cooperate to ensure the swift clearance of the container and the resumption of normal operations.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the renal patients, Baffuor Kojo Ahenkorah, has urged the hospital to follow through on its assurances and expedite the clearance of the supplies. “We accept their assurances in good faith, but we hope they will act quickly to clear the containers as promised. We remain hopeful that this situation will be resolved soon,” Ahenkorah said.
