Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, the Health Minister designate, has acknowledged that there are outstanding allowances due to nursing trainees but assured that the government is taking steps to address this issue.
During the presentation of two buses to the Lekma Hospital and the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra on Monday, May 20th, Dr. Okoe-Boye stated, “While thousands of nurses have received allowances from this government, it is true that some are still awaiting payment. We are committed to resolving these outstanding payments. You have to choose between a government that promises payment, fulfills its promise but may occasionally have arrears, and another government that cannot fulfill such commitments at all. Under the previous government led by John Mahama, nurses would have received nothing for their allowances.”
He continued, “As we speak, hundreds of thousands of nurses have received support from the Akufo-Addo government, but it is also true that many are still waiting for theirs. We will work diligently to ensure that everyone receives their due. This is the kind of government that deserves support, one that takes responsibility and works hard to fulfill its commitments.”
